Description:

Join Professor of Botany Dr. Andrew McDonald on an educational discussion of how plant structure and function in our region reveals the curious ways in which plants cope with our idiosyncratic environments.

Unique plant communities of the LRGV are defined by schizophrenic climatic factors (both desertic and tropical) and the geographic insularity of South Texas.   Plant structure and function in our region reveals the curious ways in which plants cope with our idiosyncratic environments.

Dr. Andrew McDonald is a Professor of botany in the Department of Biology at UTRGV. His contributions to the field of Plant Systematics involve the classification or Neotropical morning glories and the exploration of tropical forests in Southeast Asia and timberline floras of Mexico.  As an ethnobotanist, he interprets floral imagery among ancient ruins of Mexico, Egypt, Mesopotamia and South Asia.

Dr. Andrew McDonald is a Professor of botany in the Department of Biology at UTRGV.
